According to the deeds, The Crown and Glove was at one time a cottage in a row of four, serving ale. It was known as the Tontine - a name given to houses where the owners had each subscribed to the capital required for purchase, the last survivor inheriting.
From 1842 this public house was known as the Crown and Glove, and it passed from the ownership of Bradley and Co. to S.H. Ward and Co. Ltd in 1876. The property was improved in 1962. This is the only public house in the country of this name, but is known locally as the 'Top House'.

Every Wednesday night is quiz night at the Crown and glove. The quiz is from 10pm till late and features 20 questions from the last seven days events from the Red tooth quiz masters.
Chip butties will be served after the quiz and there is a raffle every quiz night to raise money for the annual childrens bonfire night and firework display.
Stannington Carnival
Stannington Carnival is on the 9th of July.
We will be open all day, providing outdoor entertainment and Jumbo hotdogs will be on sale
